IHI Participated in “Waterfront Big Experiment 2025” Event Held in Toyo, Koto-ku, Tokyo
On November 7 and 8, 2025, IHI participated in “Waterfront Big Experiment 2025,” an event held along the Shiohama Canal in Toyo, Koto-ku, Tokyo, near its Toyosu Head Office. The event aims to create vibrancy and enhance the appeal of the area by focusing on the use of the waterfront, as well as environmental and disaster preparedness initiatives around the Shiohama Canal, which runs through the Toyo and Shinsuna districts. Since fiscal 2020, the event has been organized by the Toyo-Shinsuna Canal Renaissance Council*1, of which IHI is a member company. As IHI is currently promoting the redevelopment of the former IHI Ship & Chemical Plant site located in this district, it has taken part in this event every year.
This year’s “Waterfront Big Experiment 2025” featured a rubber boat race between neighborhood associations and companies using disaster-response boats, a market with local shops, trial rides on water mobility vehicles, environmental learning workshops, and corporate exhibits. On the day of the event, the Mayor of Koto-ku also visited, and approximately 400 local residents attended, making for a lively atmosphere.

Six IHI employees took part in the event and, as in previous years, held a hands-on session featuring a card game and picture books sold as disaster preparedness learning materials, with the aim of raising local awareness of disaster preparedness. These activities provided local residents with an opportunity to engage with the waterfront, learn about the environment, and think about disaster preparedness in their community. For IHI as well, the event offered a valuable opportunity for employees to deepen their understanding of the areas where the company conducts its business activities and to reflect on what should be valued as it continues to develop its operations there.
IHI will continue to value its relationships with the communities in which it conducts its business activities and to promote harmonious coexistence with local society.
