IHI recently completed fabrication services regarding a mock-up of steel composite (SC) side wall modules at its Yokohama Works (Service). The wall modules are designed for use for the reactor building that will house NuScale Power Modules™ (NPMs) as part of the RoPower nuclear power project. The Service was awarded from Samsung C&T Corporation (Samsung C&T) in December 2024. It was part of Samsung C&T’s scope of work for the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) Phase 2^(*1) for the Romania small modular reactor (SMR) project utilizing NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale) technology at a former coal fired power plant site in Doicesti, Romania (Project).

IHI originally invested in NuScale in 2021 and has since participated in the development of its SMR technology. Leveraging its extensive manufacturing experience and technical expertise accumulated over the years, IHI is committed to developing technology for the realization of SMRs.

The completed Service is a major step in the realization of the first major SMR project world-wide. Utilizing the result of this Service, IHI is keen on developing the nuclear supply chain for both Romanian companies and other global customers.
