IHI Aerospace Manufactured Engines Selected for AEHF-4, MUOS-4, MUOS-5, and Vinasat-2 Satellites by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company.

IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd (IA) announced today that it has signed the contracts with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company to supply their 500N Liquid Apogee Engines for Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) 4, Vinasat-2, and Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) 4 & 5 satellites. With this 4 engine orders, IA marks its 100th receipt of order since the start of their overseas business in 1999.

“We are extremely happy about the receipt of the 100th engine order. We are confident of providing such reliable engines to our customers and we will continue to expand our business aggressively”, said Dr Shigeyasu Iihara, IA’s Chief Engineer.

500N Liquid Apogee Engines, which were developed by IA, have the top-level performance of Isp in the world. IA has numerous flight experiences with JAXA-developed satellites and has exported to overseas satellite manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin. IA has verified the high performance and reliability of its products through consecutive successes. IA will continue its effort to become the leading supplier of high performance, highly reliable spacecraft propulsion products.

Launch of H-ⅡA Launch Vehicle No. 18

The H-ⅡA launch vehicle No. 18 was launched on September 11, 2010, at 8:17 p.m. from the Tanegashima Space Center, and sent the Qasi-Zenith satellite “MICHIBIKI” into its scheduled orbit.

IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd. was involved at every step in the development and manufacture of the H-ⅡA's solid rocket boosters (SRB-A), rocket separation ordnance, and gas jet system for second-stage attitude control, and also provided support for the liftoff at the launch site.

Winner of the 39th Japan Industry Technology Award

The development of the HTV and H-ⅡB launch vehicle that were successfully launched in September 2009 won the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the 39th Japan Industry Technology Awards from Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Ltd.
The Japan Industry Technology Awards are presented every year to companies and groups developing or industrializing technologies that contribute to Japan's industrial development. Established in 1972, the Japan Industry Technology Awards marked its 39th presentation of awards this year.
The award presentation ceremony was held on April 7. JAXA and eleven HTV/H-ⅡB launch vehicle development companies, IHI Aerospace among them, received the award.

IHI Aerospace receives the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Director's Prize as an excellent energy management company in fiscal 2009

IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd. received the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Director's Prize at the 2009 Awarding of Excellent Energy Conservation Factory & amp Building hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and was presented with a certificate of merit by the Director of the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry on February 16, 2010.
Since the acquisition of ISO 14001 certification in 2002, IHI Aerospace has promoted companywide energy conservation activities by implementing an environmental management system. IHI Aerospace's factory in particular have been active in undertaking energy-saving efforts, including improvements to the control systems of air conditioners and ventilation equipment, optimization of the operating hours of air conditioners and ventilation equipment, optimization of lighting equipment placement and usage, and installation of NAS battery systems for effective utilization of nighttime power. In recognition of these efforts, IHI Aerospace received the Outstanding Performance Award and Excellence Award in consecutive years from the Committee for Effective Use of Electricity. The company has achieved an average annual reduction of 1% in unit energy consumption every year since 2002. High evaluation of these energy-saving efforts contributed to the recent awarding of the above-mentioned prize.

The Awarding of Excellent Energy Conservation Factory & Building aims to further promote energy conservation by giving public recognition to factories that emphasize the effective use of energy and make continuous efforts to promote energy management in order to contribute to the effective use of fuels and electricity. The prizes are presented to factories that make significant achievements in these efforts and serve as exemplary facilities.
